Walking For Weight Loss
Many people have a hard time managing their weight. It’s a struggle that most have to deal with at some point in life wanting to get back that thin body they used to have at one point in time. While having a healthy diet full of nutrition and lower in fats and calories is part of the process, it’s hard for most to slim down without some form of exercise. One of the better strategies that you can use to slim back down again is walking for weight loss.
Before you get started, especially if you are an older adult, you should go visit your doctor. Of course you have probably seen the warning to see a doctor before starting any new diet or exercise plans, but this is a very important step in identifying any issues mainly heart problems that could be present in your body without you knowing it. Once you are cleared with your physician, it’s time to start your walking for weight loss routine.
Why would you consider walking over other forms of exercise?
Typically walking is seen as the best starting point since it’s something that most people can do fairly easily. Even if you haven’t done any serious exercise or athletic events in a number of years, it’s not that hard to go outside and walk. A second reason it’s a good starting place is that you don’t have to buy any equipment or memberships to get started. You can get some healthy exercise at little expense burning off fat and building the routine of getting the exercise that your body really needs.
What should a walking for weight loss routine look like?
If you can barely walk for 15 minutes, that’s your starting point. You will need to do this most days of the week if you can. If you can walk more than this, you should be working yourself up to about an hour each day. At this point, increasing your pace and the number of times you go out each week should be your overall goal. If you are walking at a moderate pace for an hour most days of the week, this can help you burn a number of calories and lose at least a pound of fat each week for the average person.
Can you eventually move onto other forms of exercise?
Of course you can start doing other exercises like starting to jog or using exercise equipment. The point of walking for weight loss isn’t because it’s officially the fastest way to lose weight. The point is so that you can start a routine that you can do and actually live with once the weight is gone. If you go too hard at first, you might end up quitting and never starting up again keeping on all the extra weight.
Do your best to start your walking for weight loss routine so that you can start losing the weight that you don’t want anymore.
