3 Day Diet, Not a Long Term Solution.
In preparation for events such as a wedding or class reunion, you might want to lose weight quickly and though using the 3 Day Diet might get you the results you want, this might not last for very long.
Although experts condemn the diet as just another fad and part of a yo-yo dieting trend, the diet has been around since 1985. For the first three days certain restrictions in the diet is applied followed by normal eating in the next four or five days after which this pattern may be repeated.
Advocates of the plan claim a weight loss of up to 10 pounds while on the diet. Although the high calorie restriction might make you lose some actual weight, it is actually caused by the flushing of fluids from your system and not fat loss. Exercise is not actually required while in this program.
The diet limits the calories you can eat, the food and the quantities allowed per meal.
Each morning for breakfast you are allowed coffee or tea with one or two packs of a calorie-free sweetener. On the first day you eat 1/2 a grapefruit or 1/2 cup of juice and a piece of toast and 1 tablespoon of peanut butter; on the second day, 1 egg, 1/2 banana and one piece of toast; and on the third day, saltine crackers, one ounce of cheddar cheese and an apple.
Lunchtime on day one you can have tea or coffee with calorie-free sweetener along with 1/2 cup tuna and a piece of toast; day two you have 1 cup cottage cheese or tuna and 8 saltine crackers; day three you may have coffee or tea again with a boiled egg and a piece of toast.
Dinner time, although strict, you have more to look forward to since they include meat, veggies and ice cream. The first day includes 3 ounces of any lean meat, 1 cup green beans, 1 cup carrots, an apple and a cup of regular vanilla ice cream. On the second day, you can have two beef hot dogs, 1 cup broccoli or cabbage, 1/2 cup carrots, 1/2 banana and 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream. For the last day’s dinner have one cup each of tuna, carrots, cauliflower and melon, along with 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream.
The program also says that you should drink four cups of water or calorie-free drinks, which is less than the healthy amount we should drink.
While the 3 Day Diet may help you lose an inch or two, or a few troubling pounds so you can squeeze into a special outfit, it is not a long-term solution for healthier eating. You should not follow it more than three days at a time, and if your normal eating habits are overeating, then any weight lost will be quickly regained.
The diet can, however, be a way to jumpstart a more healthy diet as any dieter is encouraged by a quick downward trend in the numbers on the scale. On the fourth day, however, you need to remember to start eating healthy again.
